NationHela Enters Paypal Money Transfer Market in Kenya

Update on NationHela: Please note that just when we were gearing up ourselves for a good ride with NationHela to bring PayPal dollars into Kenya, they went ahead and cancelled the service. And with the cancellation, there went my review of the service! So we are clear, NationHela no longer does paypal to Kenya withdraw.

Other Options to withdraw PayPal into Kenya:

Nation Media Group in collaboration with Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) are undoubtedly ‘big boys’ in the world of media and finance respectively. Meanwhile, the world of bringing paypal money into Kenya has to date been the playfield of sole proprietors, innovative start-ups and generally, people who are creative enough to make a buck and get out of the grind.

There are major questions that are on all our minds about how the entry of the big boys into the paypal transfer market is going to impact the arena of how to being paypal money
into Kenya using NationHela. Here are some of the questions:

  • How is NationHela going to affect the existing players?
  • Is the NationHela service meant for the common mwananchi or is it another of those high-end services banks promote that have requirements that completely lock out the common business person?
  • Is the NationHela move going to augur well for people who work online in Kenya?
  • Is NationHela going to ease the process of brining paypal money into Kenya?
  • Is the NationHela service going to help bring down the eixisting rates?
  • And of course, the elephant in the room, is NationHela going to be cheaper to use to bring paypal money into Kenya?

Frankly, in my possibly biased opinion (because this is a deal involving big boys), this is not going to positively impact the low end worker who renders services online and is paid through paypal. By their own admission at the launch, this service is intended to cash in on the thousands and hundreds of dollars that come into Kenya through Kenyans in the diaspora. In my reading of marketing blah, this is a service intended for people who already have plenty of moolah to pass some on into the country.

But, since I am a true writer, I will not leave my opinion at speculation level. That is why, I will walk into DTB and ask some real questions, get some real answers, then I will be right back here and tell all.
