The Five Adsense Lies About Making Money Online in Kenya

Almost weekly I encounter one more person who tries to convince me that they can make a killing from Adsense in Kenya from their blog or website. Every time I hear that line, I want to commit an act that is not friendly to humanity. It is so annoying!

Lie No. 1 - The Person Told Them It Can Be Done Not How
Kenyans were lied to and they have it bad! They believe the lie so seriously that they continue to churn it out like holy writ. Every so often I get a call or an email challenging my position that you cannot make money online from Adsense in Kenya. Without exception, all those callers and emails are only calling to find out how it can be done. They heard it somewhere, they believed it, the person who sold the line to them did not tell them ‘how’ and they seek me out to fill in the blank and tell them ‘how’.

Here is the simple truth, take it or leave it!

Lie No. 2 - Making Money From Adsense is Easy

To make a killing from Kenya from Adsense is very, very close to impossible. It is not impossible, per se because I do not use the word impossible. It is possible in the sense that all things are possible, but it leans very close to impossible. It is much closer to impossible than to possible.

Why? Because the magnitude of work required to get a blog or website to generate a million is first, not within the capabilities of the average Kenyan citizen. As a society, we simply do not have that stick-to-it-ivness required to sit and execute things like those. We do not concentrate that much.

Lie No. 3 - Adsense is the Cheapest Way to Start and Make Money Online in Kenya
MAJORITY of the people who have made those millions in the west have two things that are not in the hands of common Kenyan citizens. They have the resources to pay a coder to create hundreds of code-generated websites with code-generated clicks. The business moguls here who can afford that kind of coder are more interested in creating value-adding business than cheating the systems.

I will tell you the other reason, even if you had the money, you cannot replicate that module here — we do not have THE NUMBERS! We do not have enough of an online population to get away with over 10,000 pages saying the exact same thing.

Lie No. 4 - Google Adsense is Easy to Set Up and Google is Friendly to All Sites
Which brings me to another reason why it is nearly impossible to make that amazing income from Adsense here. First, Google is currently on the look-out for what they call ‘click farms’. These are sites created for the sole purpose of generating clicks.

They have no readership value, and have even less value to the entire online experience. Within no time when you start that code-generated-&-replicated sites maneno, your activities stick out. You will be requested to kindly pull down your site(s). Google is not 'friendly' to everything online.

Here is the connection between creating click farms here and our numbers; even if you had those 10,000 sites, who would click on them? A robot 'software' is quickly noticed and therefore most click farms have an element of human clicks — mainly people clicking out.

Nairobi alone has about 4,000,000 people. What topic, other than jobs, would generate clicks of sufficient magnitude to generate millions? If a reasonable 20% of Nairobi were to click it does not generate enough to make it worth the effort.

You then realize that without exception, all sites 'selling' jobs have another service they sell. And by the way, on our job sites, the job content is already nauseatingly regurgitated. Even job-seekers can see through them, and we do not have that many job sites. Code generated duplication is simply not viable here.

Lie No. 5 - You Can Run a Site in Kenya and Make Money from the US
The other argument I hear is this; people believe that you can create a website from here and get targeted traffic from the US and the UK enough to create abundant income. I have a site that made me very good money from the US, UK, and Canada before the change in the Google algorithm about a year or so ago. You need serious and pricey code to over-ride the current Google preference for organic marketing.

I do not say do not try it, but do not say Paula did not warn me that is was going to be so hard. Making money from Adsense from here is no walk in the park. So here is the plainer truth if you want to hear it. If you want to make money online in Kenya, whatever you start, be it a blog or a website, it MUST do one of two things; sell a service, or sell a product. I created the info-graphic above to make sure this point is clear.

And once you have a product or service, please market it like a person on steroids. Talk about it, promote it on social media, put up posters in your local notice board, put classified adverts in newspapers, and just go crazy with promoting it. And guess what, before you know it, you will have an attractive income online.

It does not come in a day, or in a week, but within six months, hussler-mode will be a thing of the past for you. Online, like in all of life, success comes riding on the shoulders of a guy called work. To make money online is as much work as any other job that you are going to take up. Wake up and work!

  2. I have been reading all this stuff about monetizing my blog and to me it has all seemed unworkable here. Thanks for the confirmation. I will simply use my few blogs to market my offline pursuits, I think that has more chance of bearing fruit
