How Can I Withdraw Paypal Money In Kenya

This post gains its title from a common thread in several online forums, and one that I have asked myself, 'how can I withdraw Paypal money in Kenya'. I have also answered two other questions in brief, because in my view, all three are related; 'how can I verify my Paypal account in Kenya', and 'how can I make money online in Kenya'.

How can I withdraw Paypal money in Kenya?

There are many options that are given to this problem. A costly yet efficient one that I recommend because I have used it myself with no challenges is through the Epay-Kenya platform. You can read my review of that process in the article on paypal and epay-Kenya. That said, some other options are the 'get sneaky' options, and I would highly recommend you avoid them as much as possible. Once more, to easily bring your paypal money into Kenya, start with a FREE account. To pen account go here: Epay-Kenya.com

To find out more about ePAY-Kenya and their fates, read this post: how to withdraw Paypal money into Kenya through ePAY-Kenya

For the long term, you can withdraw paypal money though the Payoneer debit card issued by some online sites such as SFI Marketing, Elance.com, and oDesk.com. You may read the complete process to bring in Paypal through Payoneer at the bottom of the blog post: Paypal Money into Kenya - the Payoneer Option

How do I verify my Paypal Account from Kenya?
To get quick verification of Paypal with our local cards is to use the KCB General Purpose Debit card. This card has been around a while and it is already recognized by Paypal. You can also transact on a good number of international sites with the KCB General Purpose Card – no worries there, as it has the VISA trademark.

To get the KCB General purpose card, you need your national ID, fill in their forms, and Kshs 1,000/-. They charge 500/- shillings for the card and Kshs 500/- is for the paperwork, so technically you will not have any debit on the card from the Kshs 1,000/-. You can read their official information by clicking on the link; KCB General Purpose Card

To get the card takes about two weeks; well KCB staff will tell you '5 working days' but then they will add 'come for your card when you get your PIN' which they can send to the branch or by post. Now that may take a couple more days. So give the process two weeks.

Once you have the card, the PIN, and you have called Card Center so that they activate the card for you, go to your branch and put money on it. Paypal will charge you anything from a dollar to 4 dollars to verify that you are the true card owner; to be safe, just put Kshs 500/- on your card. Make sure you have activated your KCB General Purpose online banking option, it will make verification of Paypal immediate.

In more recent years, most banks with VISA cards will have the card enabled for online transactions. To be sure, pop into your bank and ask if you can use your VISA (IT MUST BE VISA) card online. If it can, you do not need any other card to verify your Paypal account.

Now with all that done, log onto your Paypal account, go to 'verify account', and input your card details where necessary. They will send you their transaction code through your phone immediately. From that information sent to your mobile phone, you can answer the simple question 'how much were you charged' and if you get that right, you have a verified amount. Congratulations!

How can I make money online from Kenya?
There are two methods that I recommend and I am sure there are numerous others that I do not currently know about.

1.    Write and design.
Kenya is quickly becoming an outsourcing hub of choice for a lot of internet users in the developed world. You can tap into that money by signing in to either one of the two largest internet outsourcing sites; Elance.com and Freelancer.com

These sites will allow you to create your work profile and bid for jobs. The most common jobs, and they are in no way the only jobs available, are web design and other design and writing jobs. You can log onto their sites to find what is on offer by clicking on the link: Elance.com and Freelancer.com

2.    Start an online affiliate business.
You can earn a reasonable income working part time on an affiliate program where you market legitimate products through company established methods. There are many of those and some give excellent training and others leave you to flounder on your own.

I personally work with affiliates in my team to help them understand the training and the marketing strategies in MFB and to help them grow their business to a salry-replacing income. To attend a seminar to understand MFB click on the link: MFB Business Opportunity  Seminar

The point of the above post Evans is - you cannot get your money directly from Paypal into ANY local debit card. Its that simple.

I have explained how I circumvented that legally, because there are a lot of solutions online and when I tried some of them, there was no legal way to use them. For me, I would rather take the long and legal route, than the immediate yet illegal route and get my Paypal account closed. That is way too time consuming.

  3. Its not enough just to have a Payoneer card. You got to have a virtual bank account provided for by Payoneer (at an extra charge of $20 per year). This virtual account is based in the US and it includes a routing number as well as the bank account number, and if you withdraw money from PayPal the account, you may withdraw the money using the Payoneer MasterCard from any ATM with Mastercard logo

  5. hello Paula quite insightful.
Now the "SFI business opportunity requires that you make 20$ as income in order for you to get your SFI Debit Card" does this mean i have to make $20 with SFI or i can be making the money elsewhere.

  6. Anthony: is it legal to operate paypal in Kenya? Let me give you an illistration that may help you figure that out. If you did some work for a relative and they sent the payment to you here from abroad, is it legal for your to receive it?
It is exactly the same thing, except Payapal is not your realtive, rather an online 'bank', or 'MPESA'. They just send you what is duly yours. If however you are receiving money through Paypal for illegal activities, then the law will cathc up with yo uin due season. In that instance, it is the business that is illegal, not Paypal.

  7. Ndibi: SFI gives you the card in much the same way as a company here will open a bank account for you so that they can process your salary through that account. Therefore, you have to have made the money through SFI. Once the card is in your hands, then you can go ahead and use it for other monetary transactions in much the same way as you would a company-opened bank account.

  8. Anonymous: the beauty of SFI, and that is why I make this recommendation is that you do not have to agonize about all that back office stuff. They do it for you as their affiliate. Thanks for the info. I appreciate.

  9. Now that Equity has introduced their visa card does it mean i cant still link it with my paypal account?. I need to link that with my accountis it possible?

  10. David Solomon: I have not tried to work with Equity online (I think I am a bit conservative and keep off line and online money issues separate). However, if you do get information, please share it with me I will post it here. I will also check with them and post what I learn. Thanks.

  11. A quick one for those that have asked is the KCB VISA card useable to make online purchases?
    Yes!
On any site that has the VISA card symbol, you can use your KCB General Purpose debit card to make purchases as long as you have funds on it.
Please note for online transactions, I only recommend the KCB VISA General Purpose Card because it is there for that purpose and is separate from your regular banking accounts.

  13. Hi Paula,
It is important to note that not any KCB visa card is authorised to work online. They only allow special visa cards, one of them being the general purpose card.
On the PayPal issue, I have seen that you state a way around it using SFI. That is great. Would you please inform us more on how to go about it.
I have been studying ways to help freelancers in Kenya to get money using PayPal. I have done the first few pieces of advice on how to use PayPal successfully here http://kfreelance.blogspot.com/2011/07/how-to-use-paypal-in-kenya-successfully.html

  18. Hi paula,
Thanks for the post. I just need a little bit of clarification; does the kcb general purpose card allow you to withdraw your money fron an atm or bank counter within kenya

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thank you ‘anonymous’ for the question!

    I will answer the question you asked, and the question I think you might be asking;

Can you withdraw from an ATM or in a bank with the KCB General Purpose Card? Yes! It is as much as debit card as all the other Kenyan debit cards. I don't seem to remember now, but I think you can use the PESAPOINT platform as well as the KCB ATMs.

However, considering you asked in light of a post on Paypal, the question you might be asking is can you withdraw Paypal in Kenya with the KCB General Purpose card? NO!

As paypal is set now, you can get paid into your account, you cannot in one step bring that money into the country.

  20. I am suprised to see you here, I bumped into SFI A few days ago and joined even without knowing much, am doing pretty well though I have no idea if am in the right directions. please shed more light on how they pay.

  21. Anonymous: not getting clients 'because they all buy by paypal' is selling yourself short.

The whole beauty of working online is the ability to expand your business options beyond the borders of your particular nation.

Therefore, rather than fight the institutions already in place, work with them to enhance your progress. You can learn how to get the SFI debit card fastest with this tool that I have created for just your kind of purpose.

  22. Anonymous: the good news about SFI is that you can start with very low (actually zero) start up, and yet the system keeps getting better. Add that to the fact that they have international recognition and you can make a sweet income thereof trading locally and abroad.

If you would like to learn more on how you can make progress in the business, write me a personal message through my direct email contact link on this blog, and I will be happy to give you support... (at a fee of course, unless you are part of my team, who get my support free :-) lol...)

    3. Your heart is in the right place Jworth, but Paypal is vigilant on a nice term called 'money laundering'. Simply said, if your account has too many payments that are not clear why you are being paid and for what services, and by which organizations, they will clamp your account on tramped up reason of 'illegal money exchange'.

That means you cannot transact through them, and I am not sure how that is cleared, especially if the argument you shall put forth is the service you just offered above.

I would stay very far away from this if I were you, but then again, I am not you. I am only casting my doubts on how that service will work out if you (a) are in Kenya, and (b) this is a business account.

Paypal is CLEAR, they are not releasing money into Kenya directly; they are too many fraud and money laundering loopholes. Case closed!
